Oak barrels are used for the fermentation, storage, and aging of wine, cider, and strong alcoholic beverages. Natural wood provides gentle air exchange, which makes the flavor deeper and more balanced, while different levels of charring impart characteristic notes of vanilla, caramel, wood, spices, light smoke, and toast to the drink, and may also add hints of chocolate and dried fruit.
Barrels differ not only in volume but also in shape, which makes it possible to use them for different purposes. Classic models are suitable for aging wine and distillates, ensuring even maturation, while wider or shorter shapes are used for fermentation processes. Small oak casks are also available separately, which are convenient for home winemaking and vinegar production.
